Hypertension or High Blood Pressure Treatmeant

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a common condition in which the blood moves through your arteries at a higher pressure than normal. If your blood pressure gets too high or stays high for a prolonged period, it can cause health problems. Uncontrolled hypertension increases the risk of serious health issues, such as stroke, heart disease, or heart attack.

A blood pressure reading is recorded as two numbers.  The number on the top is called the systolic blood pressure.   This is a measure of the pressure on your artery walls when your heart beats. The bottom number is called the diastolic blood pressure. The diastolic pressure is a measure of the pressure on your artery walls between heart beats when your heart is resting.

Hypertension can be caused by numerous factors, including diet, medicine, lifestyle, age, and genetics. It generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. Your doctor can help you find out what might be causing your high blood pressure and then work with you to control it.

Common Symptoms of Hypertension

TrendHealth Clinic provides comprehensive hypertension treatment in Tomball. Because most people with hypertension do not have signs or symptoms, it is important to have your blood pressure checked regularly.

Dizziness, fatigue, headaches, ringing in your ears, feeling light-headed, or facial flushing may be signs of high blood pressure. However, hypertension is also known as “the silent killer,” because most of the time people do not experience any signs or symptoms of high blood pressure. Unfortunately, these symptoms occur once the blood pressure has reached a dangerously high level over time.

Diagnosis & Treatments for Hypertension

Treatment for hypertension usually begins with lifestyle changes to help lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. Your doctor may also prescribe medication to help lower your blood pressure.

Reducing your blood pressure to normal levels is the goal of treatment. Controlling your high blood pressure is a lifelong commitment. You will always need to monitor your weight, follow a heart-healthy diet, exercise, manage stress, avoid smoking, and limit your alcohol intake. If you need medicine to control your high blood pressure, you will likely need it all your life.

If your blood pressure remains elevated despite lifestyle modifications, we can prescribe medications to help you manage your high blood pressure. Blood pressure medications are divided into different classes based on how they work. Some work on reducing the water in your body, some dilate your blood vessels, others help your heart beat stronger. It is not uncommon for blood pressure medications from different classes to be taken together to achieve control.
